The filter sounds fine, especially with plants, what lighting is going over the tank?

how many watts are the tubes? because it sounds like quite a lot of light.

Not sure, just trying to find out, the tank is made by betta (I think) and the whole thing came complete for about £35, I see if I can find it online.

No, I can not find it, I am pretty sure they are not like 58w or anything like that, can find out for sure tomorrow when the shop that sold it to me is open again. having to worry if my lighting is to strong is very new to me

Your blue light is not for freshwater, it is for the salty side. If you replace it with a daylight bulb you will have light more suitable for growing plants in freshwater.

Normally the lighting tubes have how many watts they are written on them

I would've suggested neon tetras, but truck beat me to it and suggested others.
