1 Fish

Have to disagree with the GT in a 10 gallon, these fish can and do get bigger than 6", quite easily. They are slow growers when compared to other cichlids that people would group them with eg. oscars, texas etc. but they still get bigger than a 10G can accomodate.

Here is just one image of a GT over 6" (granted its technically a goldsaum, but this is commonly sold as a GT

EDIT: If you want a predatory fish, the true amazon leaf fish will fit that, but its not aggressive and can be tricky to keep, but with planning it should be do-able.

the scientific name for bullrout is Notesthes robusta

thank you collin

and to the person that was talking about tank dimensions....

10 Gallon 24 1/4 x12 1/2 x12 3/4

Which im pretty sure this is what mine is. As much as people arent going to like it, im probably going to do it becasue even at 8 inches there would still be 4 inches of clearance. i will try to get a larger one and watch it for a few days and see how things go. If for some reason i notcie anything out of the norm ill take it back. And if for some reason the lfs doesnt want to take it i know of one that will take all health fish. so im covered on rehoming if that should arise. now dont get me wrong im hoping more people will weigh in on this and im planning on asking a few people i know who keep chilids for feed back as well. i also plan to go to stores and what how they act in tanks. Ill be looking to see if in groups if they move around alot as well as by themselves in both larger space as well as smaller space. Please more people leave what they think. Now that fish that is commonly sold as a green terror, i shouldnt have to many problems with as one of my lfs list not only the common name but the scientific name as well. Please more people weigh in on this.

i will look into that amazon leaf fish as well thank you.

after further review.... i dont think im gonna go the green terror way....

kinda sux i keep getting excited then disappointed. Thank you for your help thou.

Those dimensions should be 15 gallons, which would make a bit of difference. My 10 is shorter on all three dimensions - 20x9.5x12.

Someone mentioned dwarf puffers, and I can second that. Certainly aggressive, great fish that I intend to keep at some point in the future.

ALEXF I don't understand what's your problem with me? Just because you never seen me before so are other posters doesn't means you won't take advice from others so chill out, I think its rude. However there are LOTS of suitable species for your 10gal tank.

yeah I have to agree that the tank is too small for a GT

we all have our opinions on what is and isn't suitable for small tanks though, in that size tank i wouldn't go for much over 3/4"

However here's a random possibility, I don't know much about them so you'd definatley need to do some research to back this up, but what about a frogfish. I know there are some small species and that they are fairly sedentry so really don't require than much space, they're also super aggressive at feeding time as I udnerstand it and v unusual looking.

As I said I don't know for definate if any species are suitable for your tank, but it may be worth investigating. :good:

Another possibility while not super aggressive they are fiesty and have a lot of character, is to get a goup of shell dwellers. They form a little society between themselves and you'll see sparring etc from the males. Likewise with dwarf cichlids such as apistogramma.

I have to say, given the number of people on here theres no way the OP can know everyones aquarist CV.

Think you're better off listening to all opinions and going with the consensus, unless someone can state specifically state why they're more right than the others.

i'm not an expert on african cichlids but i heard that they are even more aggresive than new worlds. maybe you can find a smallish african cichlid to put in there

A bit of an odd suggestion, but I'm going to put it out there.....male dwarf gourami. Beautiful fish, aggressive (apparently-I've not kept them before) and incredibly colourful.
