My sorority rebuild

I love Guppies, its just that my water is too soft for them.
 
I do have some Indian Almond Leaf in the tank but his color depends on the amount of light.
 
It takes a few weeks for them to break down. I just let them rot in the tank.

As some of you know I lost my 2 foot tank and fish during the floods last month.

Well I have started to rebuild. As I still have most of the plants filter and spare lights.

I went to PetBarn and got a new tank $65 later.

Is this 3 coats black matte latex paint? Can you let me know why you do this; benefits? aesthetics? etc.?
 
3 coats of plain old mat black, the black background makes everything stand out more.
