There are at least 2 Afromastacembelus species in Lake Malawi, their main diet is the fry of other fish, cheifly Cichlids.
But your tank is not the size of a lake and your Cichlids will be put into close contact with high protein food which is extreemly bad for them, Cichlids being Cichlids they will eat anything that you put into the tank and will get there long before any eel does.
If you really want an African set up with Cichlids and eels then i would suggest a Tanganykian set up as the biology of Tangayikian Cichlids is different to Malawi's and they need a higher protein diet.
