Just a thought, I have noticed that there are quite a lot of young people posting on the Forum which is great. The only thing is, I think it would be helpful if there was some sort of "indicator" to show this, as it would enable any responders to take into consideration the persons age.

I am not sure how realistic this is, but maybe the tab could be "fry" for younger posters.

The reason I suggest this is, on occasion, responses can be quite harsh, as forum users assume that the posters are adult. I know myself from experience that I may have worded my response differently if I had known i was talking to an ankle biter. lol

im 14, and i would rather have a grown up reply harsh or not, compared to one that is all soft, regardless of age i will tell a person what will happen as a consequence of something.

i want to be treated as a grown up, i feel like a behave like one and wish to be treated like one

Thats a really good idea.

Sometimes i read a topic name and think in my head....of course you can't thats rediculus.... thinking its an adult as im not use to being on a forum with youngens on it.

well in that situation you can be blunt but in a polite way..

i dont think its a great idea as not to sound big headed but im 14 and know for a fact that i know more than some adults on here and i think it would just make people think our responses are invalid

i was so peeved today, i was in the LFS and the woman was telling someone a clown loach will get no bigger than 3 inches, i said thats rubbish they can get to 10" easy and she said, your just a kid, what do you know

people think kids know nothing, yet they can be some of the most knowledgeable on the earth

Truck, I said under 14,s so you would escape that. Also, there is 14 and then there is 14 going on 40 lol. (I always thought you were some big burly truck driver about 50) lol There are many young people on here that are far more knowledgeable then me!! but there are also some who really need a very basic grounding. and also, maybe a more "considered" response. Its just my thoughts. I have noticed some posters on here as young as 10, so really it would help if we knew that.

Firefish, I think you are missing my point. I agree, no need for harsh replies, but it happens unfortunately. and not really fair if it is a young person trying to ask advice.

I think there should be no discrimination, if the people are insensitive enough to make harsh comments I'm pretty sure they won't care if they are making a harsh comment to an under 14..

you can always look at a persons profile.people don't always put their birtdate but alot do.

I have to agree with fifefish on this one. There is never any need to speak harshly to anyone. Adults just starting out as fishkeepers are just as likely to ask about things we take for granted as young people are. In fact, the younger generation has a better education in the hard sciences than a lot of us older folks do. This has got to be to their advantage when it comes to this hobby.

lol. So maybe you see where I am coming from? Truck & Bae 1994, you are both very knowledgeable, and believe me, your advice is amazing. so this is no slant against that. Not all teens are like you two!! Dont take this personally. lol
