Yeah sorry - I still don't laugh at an ironic death. But that's just me ;)

But I do see where you're coming from, so don't get your knickers in a twist.

lol fair comment. but your still missing it, its not the death, but the whole situation.

imagine it as a conversation between the fisherman and the whale. " trust me mister whale, we are japanese fishermen come to help you!" that is the irony i find amusing.

Nature's funny that way :/

I don't know if this story is true (can anyone verify?)...A conservation group saved a seal from an oil spill. They cleaned him up and rehabbed him until he was well enough to be released to the wild. They had a major ceremony on shore, celebrating the seal's release. A few minutes into the ocean, the seal was grabbed and consequently eaten by a great white shark, right infront of the spectators. Million dollar's worth of conservation efforts down the drain
I don't know if that's true, but it reminds me of my brothers nursery class. They raised a caterpillar in a tank to a butterfly, and within seconds of releasing the butterfly, with all the children standing there - a seagull swooped down and ate it  . I must admit I laughed, despite feeling sorry for the butterfly. A lot of the kids were crying too, so I felt bad later...

Japanese fisherman....saving a whale?.....now that makes me laugh.

Reminds me of a t-shirt my big sis once saw worn by a Japanese girl at her uni. It said..."Save the whales!" in big letters, then underneath in small print it said..."(for us)" :p

I watched the video, he must have hit his head, no one went in the water in a particularly bad way, having said that, even though he was a fisherman there are no guarantees he could swim I spose, though the other people there didn't look like they made much of an effort to find him.

Shame, the world needs more nice people and it always seems that they are getting less and less.

Nice shirt reference LisaLQ I haven't seen that one before Lol

I saw the footage of it and they were in such a small boat saving such a huge animal the logistics of their plight was very silly and really should of called for more help. Ironic but not overly amazing in that league of irony like a fireman dying trying to rescue a person from a fire...

a fireman dying in a fire rescuing somone has no irony what so ever..
maybe a fireman dying trying to start a bbq. somthing like that
