You Beta

I don't know. Also what does it really madder? I already threw out the water anyway. I could not find test kits in my pet store.

it matters alot. when you change the water do you get the poo out of the rocks? thats where the ammonia stays. and poor water is what i think is causing your 25+ deaths.

i am just curious, how old are you fbtgirl?

do you have an allowance?

if yes, see how much you can pull together to get the test kits.

if your fish store does not have them, then go to petsmart.com or petco.com and order it from there.

it is essential if you really want to become an enthusiastic fish owner - which sounds like you would like to but you have some resources lacking.

as a friendly recommendation, before you get any more fish, please save up some money to get the full testing kit - the one i bought from API at petsmart was $29 and it tested everything ph (there are two types), nitrate, nitrite, ammonia, and i believe something else.

i would hate to somewhat agree that taking your $2 or $3 fish to the vet may be a stretch but i would also believe that you must be empowered to do everything that you possibly can to save it - and having the appropriate medicines in a first aid kit for your betta(s) along with the water testing kit would be a good start.

I don't have rocks in my tanks! I don't have much money either. I spend it all on buying my 50 pound rabbit food bags.

^ You said do you get the poo out of Rocks.
So I said I dont have Rocks.

then i think this is a sign for you that you need to concentrate on taking care of one or two pets only rather than trying to have multiple fish, rabbit(s), and anything else you may have.

having pets is wonderful but when you don't have the money to take care of them appropriately or the support from your mom to help you as in the case of you beta, then you owe it to yourself and those pets to be with people who can take care of them.

once you get working and having your own money, then perhaps you can try having more responsibility with pets. you learn how to budget, how to spend your money wisely, and most of all, not sacrifice the well-being of your animals because you can't afford it.

having those water test readings would help a lot of us here to determine a little bit better what your problem could be. and in turn, we can help you understand what these tests mean and what you need to look for.

my fish are my babies.. so is my turtle.. and my cat.. and my dogs. I see fish as ets more than a hobby as most people do, and if you cant take proper care than your just wasting more money on buying new fish that are just going to die.

and if you dont have money, maybe get a job. and im not saying all this to be mean.

???
What does that mean afishdude?
My parents buy a lot of things but I have to help some because my family does not make to much money. I am saving some money to get my fish Bigger tanks for Duke and My bettas.
I might be starting a dog sitting thing soon.

fbtgirl,

i believe afishdude replied to my posting where i misunderstood that you did have rocks but you didn't so he was trying to help me understand. so when he wrote 'she doesn't have rocks' it was more for me than you....and you'll see i went back and edited my reply to take the part of rocks out.

anyhow, i know how much you love fishes and pets and well, there will always be a better time for you to have these pets and take care of them when you really can. don't rush into buying things as sometimes that gets people with the best of intentions into trouble but also don't buy things (pets) if you can't afford to keep them or if they are not a priority such as helping your family.

i think helping your family comes first.

and then later, when you are making some more money, you can do both well, helping your family and your pets.

it's like me, i would love to have a pug. but i am taking my time in getting one because i know it's a huge commitment of time more so than a cat or fish. but i really would love one. work takes a lot of my time and well, i don't think i can juggle having a cat, bettas, and a pug and time for me as well.

again, i think we all want to help you out without coming across as rude or that you don't care. i think you do but i also think you are lacking a little more understanding that you can't do everything right now even though you really want to. and that sometimes is really hard when you do want things now.

he edited it. he said that if you dont wash your rocks good then that might be the cause.

Can we drop the rocks from now on?
I promised myself I would not buy anymore pets, But I can't say the same for my family  I will have my FBTs for at least 7 more years if they stay healthy and my fish I will have for a little while longer too. So I am happy with all my pets at the moment and I don't really want anymore of them:) Lol. Next time I go to the pet store I am upgrading my tanks to 2.5 gallons so I can make my Bettas as happy as can be. LOL... I promise you guys I will not buy another fish until all my others die.
