Yikes! I Feel Bad

I feel really guilty. Had a shrimp and it looked like it was removing his shell and I went to move him as he was up at the top of the filter.

The shrimp then fell and looked dead - went to get the body and then all of a sudden the fish clocked on and ripped the poor fella in half.

It was a tug of war between my Bolivian Ram and my Red Phantom.

Only fish I would have with any shrimp is young fry. My girlfriend decided to give me a nice treat one day when I was out. She got 40 red cherry and put them in with an oscar and two severum......

LOL what's "grrr" about it? Cichlids do eat shrimp and feeding live foods now and then is good for them (eating live food is what they do in the wild, after all). Same as when we feed live baby brine shrimp ("sea monkeys"), live bloodworms, live daphnia etc - jus that shrimps are bigger.

The woman in my LFS had a huge severum and she showed me how she could hand-feed him with shrimp (I think they were ghost shrimps).

I just don't like live feeding of anything. I'm a great lover of shrimp and really couldn't contemplate feeding them to anything.

My lfs sell live river shrimp as food for large fish at 15p each.

Who's a murderer? The fish for being fish? Us for being responsible fish owners who are trying to give our fish as natural and varied a diet as possible to keep them healthy?

I take it you do feed your fish? Dried food? What do you think that dried food is made from..? At some point or other, living creatures have been caught,killed, and processed into flake food...

Sorry, but dramatics are not needed IMO

ps and forgot to add that the OP didn't intentionally feed his shrimp to the fish, so either way that comment is a bit harsh.
