Yf Can Taste The Salt..

Just looked a cycling a marine tank.
Looks fairly simple with LR.
You just need to check daily.
When Nitrite & Ammonia are 0.
Make sure they stay at 0 for a few days (I will make sure it says 0 for 7 days)
Then its cycled?
With the livestock your giving me, stars etc.
Is there anything I can NOT keep with them (other inverts/cuc)

YF

You can keep anything that doesn't eat them :good: there are no inverts that you are likely to buy that will eat them. You don't need to wait 7 days, 24 hours is enough :good:

but it is:

Ammonia spike
Nitrite spike
then a nitrate spike
do a 50% water change

when nitrate <10 wait 24 hours and add more cuc if Nitrate still below 10

Need a quick anwser.
Would I be ok with the API SaltWater test kit?
There £19 on ebay which I think is good.

YF

Yes thats the ones, they are well paying that little bit extra for. I ended up replacing API ones (saltwater Master) and the extra ones for reef testing, Calcium Alk, Mag, Phosphate. Would have saved a fair amount if I had bought Salifert straight off, don't want someone else to make the same mistake.

yeah totally agree with TI.

like alot in this hobby if you try to save money on certain things you'll only end up paying more in the long run, test kits are one, hydrometer/refractometer is another, but there'll be lads of instances when you think, "well thats ones £20 cheaper so i'll go for that" only to find that , it's noisy, more expensive to run, unsightly, breaks, leaks etc etc etc.

depends on how much you are testing, mine last for ages as i do not really test much at all, I do not really test for ammonia or nitrites or Ph now, I only really test nitrate and phosphate occasionally.

If your rock is uncured then I'd wait longer after your ammonia and nitrite tests show 0.

Just a couple of weeks ago I had 40 ppm nitrate. Now it's 10-20ppm. My snails are still kickin and my cleaner shrimp that I just added Wednesday isn't exibiting any abnormal behavior. It mostly bothers corals. A guy in my lrc had his trates up to 100ppm in his 400 usg tank. Fish and his CUC were still doin their thing. I'd worry more about trates if you're getting into lps or sps. I may get some crap for telling you this, but it's true. I'll get lps someday. For now my tank is just great :D

Ok, my stocking list has been decided.

Took a snap of the rock today - had to move the tank as we are decorating and boy is it heavy - YF you will need someone at your end to help get it out of the car as Trod has a bad back and I have a problem with my shoulder

I'm going to weigh the rock in the next few days just to check you are getting 10 k :good:

Saw a dove snail in there today as well and an aiptaisia, thought I had burnt all the bu***rs

Just one clown?

Trod, I don't think we are going to get it in my car - I don't think it is going to go through the door  and it is just too heavy to lift in with the roof off - will it go in yours? Mr Seffie might have to borrow an Estate
