I finally got my Polleni's to eat a pellet type food. Problem is, its the sinking carnivor wafers for my bichirs. Now, I know that too much protien in Mbunas cause bloat. I was wondering if I had to worry about this. Also, does anyone know of some sinking wafers/pellets that are for cichlids and don't sink too fast. They seem to like the sinking action, but don't like the shrimp pellets that I have because they sink too fast. Any name brands would be helpful.

imo, sinkers are better for the fish than floaters. sinkers are more highly concentrated with food. the floaters are more "air whipped". the cause of malawi bloat is a high protein diet. malawis do require some protein, ie brine shrimp, bloodworms, etc... but not as much as the sa/ca. also make sure that you soak the pellets in tank water. no matter which ones.
