i have cherry barbs, few shrimp, a swordtail, khuli loaches, glass fish, corys, and a flying fox, would a male betta be ok in with the mix or not

whats the tank size again?

Flying foxes like a bit of company, admittedly I've only got 2 at the moment but they don't leave each others sides and ideally need a 4 foot tank as they are fast/skittish fish. I don't see why you cant experiment with a Betta, i can't think any of the fish will go for it or vice versa.

unfortunatly the flying fox was saved from the jaws of the toilet as were the two corys, as i have quite a few bottom dwellers i was toying with the idea of something else as its quite a big tank, and cant actually see many fish swimming around, the tank is the width and length of the worktop dividing the kitchen and diner, so effectivly the 'wall' and a fish to focus on would be nice

All Maidenhead Aquatic stores happily rehome fish, you don't have to do it yourself and mess up your own stocking for the sake of being the hero of the year :D

What shrimp species? If they're relatively small (cherry or crystal, f'rinstance), the fighter might consider them a tasty bedtime snack. You'd be fine with amanos or bamboos.

yeah they are amanos, like i said i was toying with the idea so my minds not made up, it was one of those moments of gawping at the tank and thinking i wander if i could???? :D

With Fighters, they have such different personalities, you might get a psycho that won't tolerate anything. Unlikely but it might happen. However, I kept amanos with my fighter no problem, even though I found that the fighter did take a fancy to the cherry shrimp.

maybe not such a great idea then, oh well back to the drawing board

Did I not write that very well? I think it's unlikely you'll have problems with a fighter vs amano shrimp.

my luck i'll get the psycho  i put so much into this tank, i made it and the lid myself and it looks so empty, even though its not, my cherry barbs tend to like the planted area one looks like she swallowed a beach ball so maybe little ones on the way,
