Does anybody know if these fish are easy to breed and would like to give me sum tips on breeding them for easy ways or what tank size and how many females to males.

Do a search for yellow labs on this forum, a thread about breeding yellow labs was started a little while back.

Btw, you seem to want to breed a lot of fish, are you hoping to keep fish in order to make a profit?

yes i start this great hobby 2 years ago when i moved from the country to the city,
i started with a 2ft with clown loaches mollies and some danios, then i got a 3ft with my own money from working with my dad (he owns his own companys) and made that into a community tank which looks alrite i am putting pics on on thrusday or friday, know i am saving up because i have seen a 5 ft by 3ft and another large tank buit dont know dimentions that i want to get and 1 is for 985 dollars and the other for 1200 dollars and from last skool holis and this 1 coming up i would of saved 1,700 so i am going to get one of the 2.

I have never bred fish before and its one of my biggest goals to do my mates say man buy ur self sum guppys and breed them but i dont want to breed easy fish i want to breed a fish which will take time and make me feel proud of it, which will show me that the fish likes its enviroment and it is happy in my tank.

that is why i always ask about breeding different fish because i want some ideas on some.

good job aussie. nothing wrong with asking alot of questions.

labidochromis caerelus, yellow lab, is one of the more peaceful of the mbuna. very low aggreassion. it is a mouthbrooder. unlike most of the mbuna it can be kept in pairs. the males are yellow with a broad stripe of black on the dorsal. the females are yellow with a thinner stripe of black on the dorsal. relatively easy to breed.

if you are going with a larger tank like that, are you wanting to breed the fish in a community? ifyou have the room, i would suggest getting smaller tanks and breeding each species seperately.

here are some mbuna community tanks that may spark your interest though.

Thanks for the site yes i do wish to breed these fish as my friends have a 4ft electric yellow and blue tank and theirs breed every month and the babies look cool and i wish to have some my self. so how many should i have in a 3ft tank, could i have like 5 females and 2 males.

I was also thinking of getting some fish called manago's (unsure if that is how it is spelt) what do u think.

melanochromis chippokae are very aggressive fish. would not mix labs with m. chippokae. too aggressive. if you have a m. chippokae in the tank, more than likely it is the alpha. comparable to the melanochromis auratus. m. chippokae are often mistaken for m. auratus since they do have similar female coloration. the m.auratus has a white stripe between the horizontal black and yellow stripe, while the m. chippokae does not. m. auratus males will be more black as they mature. m. chippokae males will turn black and blue.

maingano is usually referred to as a strain of melanochromis johanni. another more aggressive mbuna. the scientific name for this strain is melanochromis cyaneorhabdos. this fish is similar to the m. johanni. the only exception being in that the maingano strain has no color morph between the sexes. m. johanni males are the typical black and blue horizontal stripe. females are gold in color. can be kept with the chippokae, but also do not reccommend with the lab.

Ok thanks again semper fi, what size tank would i need if i wanted 1 male maingano and 3 females and 1 male chippokae with 3 females. i dont know weather i should put them in my 3ft by 2ft tank, ( my friend has a tank which is a ft long then mine and i am unsure on how much higher but he has 5 electric blues 5 yellows 2 maingano's 1 chippoke and 3 other random fish i dont know the name of). would my tank be the right size for 8 mbuna. Also just a quick Q's which breed more efficent the yellow labs and blues or the chippokes and maingano's.

Another fish i have found to like is the red emporors,

thanks Aussie.

In my 55g malawi tank im going to get yellow labs and they will peacefully live with Cyrtocara moorii or "Blue Dolphins". I do not know however if they will get along with your other fish. Heres a link to the fish.

Cyrtocara Moorii

Ok thanks i have seen them before aswell. do urs breed easy.

Oh I dont have them yet but once the moorii reach 2 years old they will breed every 45 days or so. They do take awhile till they first breed though
