My girlfriend has recently setup a tank for turtles, Yellow Bellied Sliders to be exact. She is a complete novice on the subject and has been doing nothing but reading books on them for the past 3 weeks. I was wondering if anyone had any information on this variey of turtle?

Two questions she told me I must ask are
1) Should all food be killed(i.e. mealworm) before feeding to the turtles or not, the books seem vague on this issue.
2) Ideal temp for the tank water and ideal temp for the tank outside of the water, again the books vary considerably on this issue.

Any other information, no matter how important or not, would be gatefully appreciated.

Thankyou in advance. :)

1. I don't think that food should be killed at all, live food is just fine ;)

2. Water- The water should be kept in a range of 82 to 85F or the high 70s (no less than 75 if possible).

3. Basking Area- About 90F or 10F more than the water temperature.
