In about a year (ages i know but i can't wait) if i still like fish (only 12 - go through phases of wot i like) i am gonna get a 6ft tank in my room (don't know if floor will hold but we'll think bout that nearer the time). Omg i so want it get a huge shoal of little fish and big fish gonna be awesome!

Sorry if this bored you but i had to write my feeling down.

lol the problem with that...........

small fish fit inside big fish.

other than that good stuff!!!

it's a big tank....i have one of those too. before you decide what fish you'd like to put in there, be sure that you share your ideas with us so we can let you know if it's a good idea to put 200 neons in with an oscar.

No i wasn't tihnking big fish that cost loads as i aint a good fishkeeper (YET) so don't wamma waste money. Yeah its not gonna be planted as i've never had any luck with plants. But i am mroe successful with silk plants and ornaments lol!

they arnt expensive at all, (3" one for a fiver) then all the joy of watching it grow...and if i cant kill one no one can  (few close shaves tho)

but dont make any descions just yet, enjoy the whole year of deciding :)

What else is in the 4 ft? It's big enough for a small group of clown loaches (which reach almost a foot in length) but if there are a lot of fish in it already, adding four large fish will overstock it.

Jess, I'd steer clear of clown loaches if I were you hun - they can be quite problematic fish and need spot on tank conditions. They are extremely notorious for getting white spot disease and even with medication they usually end up dying (I'm sure if you were to do a search on these forums for Clown Loach, you'd probably find lots of posts about sick clown loaches). I think clown loaches are best left to the more experienced fishkeepers (just my opinion - I've tried and given up for now) - so maybe in a few years time you can give them a try. But, again, they do grow huge (if they are lucky enough to escape disease) and this is the problem you already have with your current 4ft tank set up with fish that are going to be too big for it.

Go for something that doesn't grow to such large proportions for your 4ft tank. In the 6ft tank - well, you have more scope - you lucky thing! Cichlids would definitely be my choice, too - not only are they beautiful but they have such great personalities and character. Lots of cichlids to choose from, too. And you have a whole year to start planning it all and doing as much research on your chosen fish as possible. Gosh, I can just imagine how excited you must be - counting down those months and weeks, eh?

Take care - Athena

Yeppers each day counts. Well about the loaches well that explains why my 3 i got (first fish) all died with whitespot (I thought it was their colouration then lol!). Okay so a no no for loachies is their anyother types of loaches who eat snail? Just remember i'll only get it if i'm still REally into fish (which i probably will - this is my longest ever phase of what i like normally its like netball for a week then ...etc).
