As per the title, can anyone recommend a user friendly HTML editor that allows you to create pages without the need to write code (wizards etc), but lets you tinker with the code when it doesn't do what yoy wanted..

Cheers

Yeah for basic HTML frontpage and notepad are nice and simple. Way before flash, etc I used to use frontpage to do the basic design then edit it with notepad to strip out all the excess junk code.

If you want a really easy life and have a decent host then look at Joomla. Its basically a webpage backend that makes it really easy to put pages together quickly. Probably a bit much if you are just building a personal page but if it is a commercial page then it also has lots of options for setting up online shops/catalogs.

I like Macromedia Dreamweaver (its now sold by Adobe), It doesn't seem to add as much junk as frontpage. Although if i get the job i've been interviewed for today then i will be using Microsoft Visual Studio

I have a free wysiwyg that looks similar to frontpage and is just as easy to use and tottaly portable so you can run it straight off a CD or USB memory stick ect. :D, just say if you want a link/download.

I also use wysiwyg, i find it great to use and can build a site in no time on it... if you want it, i can give you the software for free with the code to unlock it, just pm if you want it :)

ps, the sites in my sig is what i built with wysiwyg

I think Dreamweaver is far superior ( If totally overpriced!!!) I use it also coz I use adobe photoshop and adobe illustrator (I got it in the pack when I bought all adobe applications - a mere £2500!!)

However, a knowlege of the code goes a long way when you need to make tweeks!
