my red marlbro and red pigeon blood have layed eggs on some bogwood, i wasn`t expecting that, i am really excited, i don`t expect they will survive as i have rams an angel and other discus in there. Not sure wether i should move them into spare tank i have set up or leave well alone.

Advice appreciated Angel

i'm well pleased for you angelmouse, there must be something in the air at the moment. if you move them from the parents they will not survive. they need their first food that they get from the parents bodys which they graze on

edit; i'm sure you already know this!

With discus, i think you should leave them to do there thing as already said the babies 1st live of there slim coats. so.. maybe move them after 2 weeks if any survive bring them up and sell them or do watever etc lol! good luck theres going to be some nice babies out of the 2!!

Thanks for advice as i have never had them spawn before(thought they were still a bit too young) and i have no experience in breeding them. i could always move parents and eggs as they are attached to wood into another tank which i have already set up with a couple of bn in that i could take out,i save this tank for emergencys in case one gets sick. could this be done.
Fingers crossed Angel

Congraturation angelmouse! :hyper:

It is always nice to get the eggs from the fish. Since it is usually the sign of happy healthy fish. And not to mention the Discus is "the King of freshwater fish" and also my list of someday fish. I am a Tetras and Corydoras guy which I can manage to raise most of their off spring. I am getting into Cichild slowly, I did adopted 3 gold Angels in the beginning of year and I also have eyes on another hobbiest Rams she bred. I probably try to trade with my Sterbai frys or buy them in few months if everything goes right. I figure I need to gain some experience with Angels before I would ever get some Discus.

Anyway, how big are the Discus parents? I would love to hear the set-up and water parameter., etc if you would. I'm sure I am not the only one who would like to learn the details of success.

The proud parents are still protecting the eggs, all the other fish are keeping their distance at moment.
They are 5.5-6"head to tail at moment, in tank with 2 external cannister filters. I use 80% r/o and 20% tap water at a ph of 7.0, i also run 2x nutrafin co2 units on this tank to help plants and keep ph down and a uv unit. Had no problems in the 5-6 months its been up and running. I feed them on mix of beefheart, freeze dried brine shrimp, tetra prima and diskusin. I do 20% water changes every 2-4 days depending on how busy i am.
I have also always wanted Discus but was scared of how difficult they might be, it is an expensive fish to take risks with. But after lots of research took the plunge Well worth it......
I`ve got mts now and am in v.early stages of setting up a malawi tank and just seen a must have madagascan cichlid (paratilapia) on another thread

just have a question, shouldnt angels not be kept with discus?
good luck :good: im getting discus myself (pair of pigeon bloods) that i hope to breed.

Discus and Angels is well debated suject as its said they can carry diseases that are harmful to discus, but most are tank bred now and are ok(i think), also they can compete with the discus for food mine are just babys but alway get to the food first. I personally would rather not keep them together ,tank looks better with just one shoal of discus then smaller fish imo, but alot of people keep them with no probs. My angels normally live with a bn in my other tank that keep for emergencys or bullys but i put them in their temporally a couple of weeks ago whilst i gave the tank a through overhall and just haven`t put them back, don`t know wether to or not? (When they eat my eggs  i will probably demote them back to other tank  )

what the eggs?
if its the eggs depends. if the discus are still guarding them i guess nobody will be able to get close to them. the plecos might snatch them though. what im going to do with my discus is if they lay eggs, (which i hope  ) i will temporarily give all of my other fish to either my brothers 32 gallon or to the lfs to hold them for a little bit. they will probably go to my brother.

Your tank has excellent care. Have they shown any agression to other fish.

No they have never shown any aggression to the other fish, only bettween themselves at feeding time, if some beefheart falls to the floor near them they guard it and wont let others near it. at moment they are chasing all fish away from eggs.

maybe, but there are alot of plants to hide in if they need abit of timeout, when i first got them there were afew spats to be dominant fish but the blue diamond soon nailed that
