Would You Buy This Filter?

I really just want a second filter as I think my tank could do with a bit more but I also want it to take up as little room as possible. It was the smallest one I could find lol!

There's so little filter media in that I can't see it making a huge impact in a 60l to be honest. I just got a Dennerle nano corner filter for about £16 which is a realistic size (about 16cm tall) but doesn't take up too much space as it's triangle shaped to fit in a corner. Might be worth a look?

I know the obvious solution is an external (or bigger tank lol) but they worry me for a few reasons.

I would buy that as a powerhead, not a filter. Go external, if you want to save room :good:

also, from the photos, that has a European power plug, so you'd need an adaptor. I know 3.21 is really cheap, but I did just buy an Eheim 2211 with all the media and trims for about 15 pounds delivered, which I plan to put on my 60 litre in a few months...

The noise of an external worries me because it's in my bedroom. As does the chance (small I know)of it breaking and draining my tank! :unsure:

I have an eheim 2213 in my bedroom, the only time ive ever had water on my floor is when i was trying to clean the filter and didnt think of the water in the canister coming our of the holes, my fault not the filters really.

It's also about 50cm away from my head and the only thing i can hear is the water bubbling a little bit

Good externals (read, "from the ones I have used, Eheims") are silent. Seriously. I am a freak about quiet equipment as I've had aquariums in my bedroom and lounges for 15 odd years and wake up at the slightest noise.

Also, the most common reason for a leaking filter is that it has not been assembled properly and it can't possibly drain all the water from the tank because the inlet needs to be at least 5-10 cm above the substrate, so it doesn't suck the sand in.

indeed. though the 2213 is a bit more noisy than the PRO, 2 and 3's evn so, i think, it quieter than most air pumps. even the really quiet ones.
however the extra noise could be a good thing. with the PRO's you have to check the outlet, just to know its working.

raptorrex is right, I have to check for surface movement to see if my Pro 3e filters are actually doing anything!

Airpumps are really loud though.. I wouldn't even consider any filter which gets close to that.

and lol@ airpumps, I know. If I was a fish equipment manufacturer I would spend a lot of time trying to invent a silent pump. You'd make a mint!

thing is though. some pumps are, or should be, that quite. its lax quality control, and low production standards, that causes the noise.

that's how you find one owner saying a pump is very quite. yet, another owner, will complain of noise. even on the same modle of pump.

I'm not sure how many LFS will do it. but, ideally, i'd like to hear the , Actual, pump i am thinking of buying. and, to me, hearing the same model. but not the actual one. is a waste of time.
