Just wondering if a power head would help the filtration in my tank? Or will it just increase the water current?

Tank is a Juwel rio 400 (151x51x66cm 450 litres). Home to my dovii and texas cichlids (messy at the best of times lol) Current filtration is a fluval fx5 external which I think is suitable for tanks of up to 1500 litres.

All i really want to know is could i add a power head to increase filtration instead of using another external filter? The power head iv been looking is rated at 980 litres per hour.

It helps to move poo/detrius around the tank, if you've spotted parts of the tank that get a good build up of stuff, aiming a powerhead there will help move it toward the intake of the external, therefore helping filter more efficiently

No i wouldn't say i get any build up at all in the tank. It's always clean all around. Iv just always read the more filtration the better...

Iv just got in mind that these fish are only going to get bigger and with that comes more waste so it's more for future purposes than a must have right now

More waste might equal more build up, you should be ok for for now then

My water pumps are actually a problem for me, more than anything, I bought ones rated for my tank size, but they create a whirlpool. They are so powerful, my plants blow over and uproot. I have to wrap them in filter floss to baffle them. However, I need them in my planted tank for water flow, and I use them to push the gunk around.

Just food for thought when making your decision.

I have a 900lph koralia nano, makes very little effect. Do you know how much yours are rated at FF04? They must be like 3000lph for marine tanks

They r the 750's

If I run them from the back wall toward the front, I get really great circulation, but my angelfish were staying in the back all the time.

I have a pretty small powerless just to disturb the top of the water, avoiding any build up on the surface. Unless you attach a filter to the intake, that is the only real way it would improve filtrarion.

Circulation I find is a good thing, to an extent, but it depends on your fish. Discus wouldn't like much of a current, although my puffer spent the majority of its day battling the current! Different Tanks however.

Evaluate your tank, the fish and the decor, if you could get away with a small powerhead, I would go for it :)
