Would I Be Right In Thinking

Clown loach work well to be honest, my 5 are great at clearing up the food Chops drops, although they do steal prawn off him

Black lancers are nice but you'll need a group if you ever want to see them, They are as nocturnal a fish that you will come across

thanks for the heads up about the black lancer davo . it seems all the catfish i like are shy/nocturnal. what im really looking for is an attractive catfish which is not shy and would be active during the tanks "daytime" ie when the lights are on . that will get to a size of 8 to 10 inches .oh and ideally id like to not pay the earth for it .

dont want much do i

Nothing really spring to mind. I can think of a few cats that would be fairly active in the day but most would become oscar food.

and heres me saying i sold the discus cos they were too restrictive in tankmates :lol:

i was wondering about pims . i did have a pim pictus ages ago but it didnt go well. altho to be fair i didnt really know what i was doing then and kept it as a single specemin. i do like the pimelodea catfish . great suggestion davo . deffinately the front runner so far i think . eith that or a big synodontis.

speaking of synodontis . 1 i really like the look of is synodontis multipunctatus ( spelling ?) but not sure they would be big enough as i believe they max out at around 6 inches .

I'd personally risk them at 6", which is similar to Hoplos and they tend to get on fine with oscars,

A larger option could be Synodontis decora ?

just think how colourful and active someclown loach would be far better than miserable, dull dark shy catfish lol

seriously!!

just had a quick look at that davo ( synodontis decora) i like it . actually i like it a lot . kind of reminds me of a cross between eupterus and multipunctatus both of which i like.

lol sorry mate kept em before jsut didnt like em

I was going to suggest a S. decora earlier, there's a least one lovely big specimen at Aquajardin (which by all acounts is regarded as a "catfish paradise" to those who know the store, see thread at planetcatfish about recent IDed stocklist).

SF suggests that they are quite social as Synos go, just like my three S. brichardi (another one I was tempted to suggest as mine have become more active in daylight recently, especially after I lowered the water level to ~300l, giving 10x water turnover from my FX5 and 2078 filters, but wondered if their 6" maximum isze would be an issue). Profiles for S. decora suggest you won't see much of it in a brightly lit tank during daylight hours, but they are lovely fish!

i could always subdue the lighting , if need be . not really bothered if i see the catfish all the time , but would be nice if it at least put in a decent showing. unlike the doridae ctafish i had which i never saw in 11 months

my humbug cats are active and always come out to feed. the cichlids dont bother them and even if they did they are well armoured. very nice looking cats too :good:

Sengal Birchir! Very active, cute in their own way, comical and tough enough to live with oscars.
