I'm just about a month or two away from upgrading my 6ft tank to a 10ft tank and am considering adding another fish to the mix once I upgrade.

My OH is keen on flagtail characins so that will be his addition I think - but I would like another cichlid.

I'm tempted by a chocolate cichlid or a severum (or a pair of either) - my OH won't allow me to have Uaru ( :( ) so I'm restricted to those two as my final choice ... but would they live happily with my current stocking plus 6 Geophagus Altifrons and a Flagtail Characin?

And in a 10ft x 3ft x 18inch 1200L tank should I get a pair or just a single specimen?

Severums and Geophagus co-exist peacefully no problems. In a tank that size, you could have 4 or 5 full grown severums, so you choice isnt limited at all.

10ft, very jealous....

I've seen a great big tank somewhere with pretty much all sevs and geos...I'll try to track down the URL, it looks awesome!
edit: Nevermind, can't find it for toffee...

Have a look on youtube, you'll find quite a few happy tanks with both those fish in...

WOW that a huge tank like Minxy said you could have a few severums in that tank with a group of geos NO problems. Maybe a group of 5 female Sev or 5 Males. Or you could maybe get away with 2 pairs. a pair of chocolates and a pair of sev would work. I would get a True Parrot and some severums. I'm thinking my next fish adventure will be with the Hoplarchus psittacus The price of them is slowly dropping.

Can't want to see the photos of this monster tank. Are you building it your self? is it 3 ft deep or 3 ft wide? Why can't you have the Uaru?

Yeah - we're going to be building the tank ourselves using plywood, reinforcement and a big glass front viewing window.
It'll 3ft wide and 18inches deep as none of my stocking use depth in a tank so they get more floor space :)

The OH doesn't like Uaru :( And as the clown loaches and the geos are my thing, I have to meet him halfway a bit lol (even though he'll have 3 x 6ft, 3x 3ft and 3 x 2ft filled with what he wants but oh well).

I might get a pair of chocolate cichlids and a pair of sevs then.

ETA: I remember now that sevs will eat my plants but I've decided on mounting various different hardy species onto bogwood and letting them mature a bit before they go into the tank and it won't be heavily planted anyway - will they eat floating plants?
