Worst Filter You Ever Used...

i have an interpret filter, came with my tank, its okay i guess not that i know much about what filters are really good and which ones to avoid, although mine does seem to get clogged an awful lot and the water flow always seems to get less and less powerful day by day, have to clean it out more often than necessary due to the blockages on the plus side its almost silent when the bubble flow thingy isnt turned on (not quite sure what its called ) haha

I have to say i have both the fluval 205 and the Interpet Pf mini and say the pf mini needs cleaning once a week and i have not cleaned the 205 out yet and its been nearly a month now.
Both are very quiet. Maby you got duff filters?

what you have to remember is that the PF MINI has got very few holes in it compared to later models...

A month is not a very long time at all, in 3 years time you'll more than likely be saying something completely different.

I think the tetra filters are the worst I have used, although I have yet to have a bad experience. My tetra burnt out fast. Ive been using the aquaclear 70 on my 40g and aquaclear 50 on my 10, and I use the marineland emporer 400 on my 55 and 75g tanks

I haven't used many but I got a fluval C4 HOB with a kit I purchased. I'm not overly impressed with it just because there's not a lot of room for customizing your media. And for $70 or w/e it is I'd much rather buy an aquaclear for far cheaper that imo does a better job.

agreed... my mate uses the C4 and in his opinion its pretty naff... he went for a penguin...

i tend to find that the smaller the filter the capacity, the worse the quality... as well as having a tiny impeller (normally) they also have very little space for media... thats the reason why i always buy a bigger filter and turn it down... you get more media and more reliability (well normally theyre more reliable at least lol) but without blowing the fish to kingdom come...

and ugly... if i was ever to have an external filter... that would be my last choice... looks like a glorified bucket with a very ugly lid on it... Yeuchh!

surely you dont buy a filter for its good looks...... isnt it out of the way in the stand and out of sight....?

for the money and competition within its price range you will struggle to find a better filter than the FX5. they are very easy to maintain and will even help to do a water change if required. they switch off every 24hrs to release any trapped air and are pretty quiet for the lph they give.

if you can find a brand new filter that has the capacity and flow rate of an FX5 thats a similar price then please do tell us. i paid £145 for each of mine brand new and have seen that they have gone up in price recently to around £175 but still nothing compares for the cash..

I've got an Odyssea canister for my 55g that is amazingly good. $70 delivered! I do plan to get a second one.

I have an Eheim 2234 that I finally got working and I'm really disappointed with the gph.

The absolute worst is a Penguin HOB (don't know the model number) that I got free, but even so it's a b*tch to get going once it's turned off. Makes noises like someone's strangling it.
