I am talking about the 3 mix fruit tetras I have in a gallon fish tank. I was suggested to get a bigger tank, but I don't have the space. Now it worries me that my fishes could be unconfortable or can get sick or something... I don't know.

I didn't realize they were fruit tetra's. Did your fish store employee happen to tell you how your tetra's got so colorful? Well in case he didn't. They were dipped in acid then dipped in dye then dipped in stress coat. The color will probably fade in 4 months and 80% of the fish this is done to die. check out deathbydyeing.org

I suggest you take them back to the store and demand your money back... then buy a betta for that spacious 1 gallon you have. He will truely be happy in that tank. =) sorry to be such a downer and I'm not trying to be rude.

I have four mixed fruit tetras. I didn't realized that they were dyed until I got them home and looked them up on the net. Their color is fading but they seem healthy at the moment. I was very mad when I found out that they were dyed and the process that people dye them in. Right now they are happy and healthy swiming around in my 90 gallon tank.

I believe that the method used on fruit tetra's only kills shortly after the process is done. If they live a couple months in your tank they may be ok. It's the ones that are injected with dye that get infections. I could be wrong though.

That is so cruel! but I want to keep my mix fruit tetras; they look happy and healthy. Later, when they die, I'm gonna get the betta.

Thanks for all the info.

They are your fish and you can do as you like with them... but they do like to be in larger groups and they do like larger tanks. Also your LFS will probably take them back. food for thought.

Don't feel bad, Rosy. Several years ago, I bought 3 red tailed loaches that were dyed. I didn't know until later myself. They are now in a friend's tank with his loaches and are 7" each.

If you like your fruit tetras, you should get a bigger tank for them, like 20+ gallons. Then they would have a great home and you can have them in a proper school -- like Torrean said. But don't leave them in that 1 gallon tank.

I hope I didn't make you feel bad. Years ago I remember asking my mom why the painted glass fish where so colorful. She said (and honestly believed) that they had literally been painted (with a brush) It's not your fault at all that you bought dyed fish. The LFS should inform you before you buy them. And in my humble opinion it is not your fault that you have them in a one gallon tank. They should have asked you your tank size aswell as told you that they like to be in groups. best of luck rosy =)

Torrean I followed your advice and exchanged the fruit tetras for a betta. Don't worry, you didn't make me feel bad, I appreciate your comments. I am learning a lot and that's good. Thanks!!!

B) that makes me very happy. Thank you rosy. You can add snails or some ghost shrimp if you think the tank is kinda boring, although i make no promises that the ghost shrimp won't get eaten.

You should not be keeping a better in a 1g tank at all check in the betta forum at what they should be living in.

I think that you need to spend a bit of time looking at your own tank too mate. You've got shoaling fish on their own (clowns and balas for starters), in a 30G which is far far too small (both clowns and balas will be 6"+ inside a year and max out at a good foot long). You might not be having a problem now, but give it 12 months and your tank will be collapsing into chaos, guaranteed.

Thanks for that mate but as you only looked at my sig and didnt actually ask me what i have i take it you will just have a stab in the dark the clown loach is at the minute only very small about 1 1/2" and for your information bright spark will be going in with 2 other clown loaches more to come sooner rather than later in a 156G tank so i guess you should shut up telling people to go and have a good look at there own tanks maybe i just havnt listed everything on my signature for you all to see like my malawi tank is up and running and stocked but hang on its says on my sig that its cycling, and balas are quiet allright on there own or are they no good for my 590 litre tank either. so before you try making me look like an idiot mate ask me the questions first and dont immediatly think you know about me.
