It has to happen. I'm surprised the European association has had the courage for such a power move, but the proposal by Infantino was very corrupt.

I suspect some of the rather unorthodox decisions of the last world cup was a heads up where things were headed if they did not act....

I really like Aleksander Čeferin, the UEFA president. He didn't back down at the American-style Super League proposed by the top European clubs either. Juventus the team I follow, had its chairman, Agnelli labelled as a 'lying snake' by Čeferin after the Super League proposals. Even after he gave him his word that Juve would not take part in it. Thankfully, this led to Agnelli's downfall and even saw the return of the Ultras in the stands, who had always criticised him. What a stain that man was on his family name.
Ice hockey doesn't have relegation. The top league has been under the control of idiots who keep expanding to new cities, taking in the expansion fees, and looking for new cities. A team needs four players at the centre position. Very few teams now have 2 quality centres. Many have one. Players who shouldn't be in a top league are now in demand, and the game is suffering.
The number of countries with climates or infrastructure for player development is small, and the greed is stretching the talent pool. It broke a ways back, but it's still expanding. It's run by guys like Infantino.
Sports, be it football, hockey, or any other are in trouble, and are being run into the ground. It's become a lucrative field, but the games are being hurt.

So far so good - there's hope. Maybe someone will sell that family the Olympics instead, since at the moment their use of their power (it's more than influence) to get the World Cup seems to have failed. Sports are a spectacle that earns a lot of money, and that aspect is central - more central to some than others, but there. The sheer level of corruption in this proposal was startling. It's 2026 and I shouldn't be surprised, but I am.

Update: I read the news today and thank goodness FIFA's private investor plan got cancelled after UEFA's backlash and other confederations joining in with UEFA to stop the plan...
Now I'll hsve nightmares.
Yea - on the first day they UEFA announced plans to leave FIFA was defiant but i guess after a week of decent sleep they reconsidered or maybe the investors decided it would not be worth investing without UEFA....
