Hi guys, and adults with life experience + knowledge.

Do you think it is possible for me (a 14 yo) to get a job in P@H? Is it legal? I know its legal to work at 14, but do i need anything else?

Help me out here :)

Hi, if you are under 16 then you are legally only allowed to work part-time during the school holidays,
privately run stores may offer you some hours but No Chain store will even think of hiring you until you are at least 16.

Hi,

Do you know much about fish....how to care for them?, what are good tank mates? what you should be feeding them? If you answered yes to all of these questions then your over qualified!! (in my experience!!)

Seriously.....go into your local P@H and ask to speak to the Manager or Dep Manager and ask them about weekend jobs. They should know what hours your legally allowed to work etc You could well end up mucking out rabbits and hamsters but the only way is up from there ;)

Let us know how you get on,
Leanne

It's a legal requirement to be over 16 when buying livestock in the UK I believe, unless you are acompanied by a responcible adult. This could mean you are not allowed to sell live stock to customers, but facing up (stacking shelves in english) and cleaning are all jobs you are deffinately allowed to do at 14 :good: As said, speak to the manager about weekend jobs, preferably AFTER chatting to them in general about fish (and any other pets you know about ;) ) if they happen to be near that section to show them your knowlage :shifty: and you increase your chances of getting a job there. There will be more "qualifyed" people on paper than you applying there, so you need to demonstrate to them that you know your stuff and are better qualifyed in person, before asking about work to give yourself the best chance

i have just applied for pets@home near me maybe i can teach the staff a thing or 2 about fish also you must be at least 16 for them to employ you as you do not have a national insurance card for them to send wages into your account

You do not need a National Insurance Card to get employment when you are under 16. When you get your NI card though, you do need to pass your NI number onto your employer strait away, so that they can ensure you are paying all required national insurance. ;)
