Hi, I have an aquastart 500 and I am wondering if i could divide it in half and have 2 males on each side. That would be 30l on each side or should i just keep one male betta in the whole tank?

Also if i made it an all female tank how many females could i put in it?

dividing it into 2 would be fine for males and about the females ive 8 currently in mine and 5 peppered corys

Thanks for the fast reply, I will probably go with 2 males as i have been looking around and i am totally falling in love with the black bettas. If i bought a divider which had holes in would one filter and one heater be alright?

It's just that I heard that sometimes bettas rip their fins on some plants. The conditions are fine as I am using the tank as a community at the moment and I have vallis and amazon swords.

It's generally plastic plants they rip their fins on, any live plants should be fine. I have both amazon sword and vallis in my betta tanks as well as java moss, java fern, cabomba and some pink ones that i can't remember the names to! Good luck with the tank!

thanks, i will be starting it in a month or so, as i want to enjoy the fish i have in it already first. Also what would be a good fast growing plant that will make a carpet on the floor?

Java moss isnt a substrate kind of thing. Either to stones or bog wood, or recently on here if want on the floor of the tank, get some meshing of some kind (plastic meshing) can tie to that and lay down :)
