i've been browsing the IBC-SMP page and have discovered some lovely wilds (thanks to people here like julie and her falx, wuv and kapuas i've been inspired). i started by looking at the species and have contacted some folks. then i read some of the articles. i'm just curious, it sounds like many keep multiple wilds together, males with females and some even other species. are the wilds really okay to keep together without a divider???? does it just depend on tank size and set up for them????

thanks guys!!

Depends on the wild! :p Some do get along in the proper community setting, some won't. I know that doesn't seem very helpful, but your best bet IMO is to pick out a couple of species of wilds you like, then do some research on them to figure out whether or not they can be kept together. There is not a generalization that can be made about all the different species of wilds.

i figured as much. of course, the ones i'm interested in, there isn't much info out there (in english anywho..). i'll just have to sit down with my list to research more to be sure.

but my main question is, ARE there some wild types that can be kept together (males with other males, males with females, one species with another) without issue??? maybe it was just luck that those breeders did it, but i'm curious after reading a couple of the articles there...................

Well, you could post them too - we are lucky to have members like D Chia who lives in Singapore, he or others might know something about them, so you never know, you might luck out!

hiya, im not a great expert on the wilds, but i think alot of breeders, are sucessful in keeping males together, but its usually a case of, their brothers, and have neva been violent towards each other, n therefore neva been seperated.

i know this doesnt really answer ur question very well, but i thought you may like a lil bit of info ive picked up, hope it helps.

From what I've been told by a wild specialist,no they'll usually all get aggressive in a tank even though some species can be found right next to another in the wild. Also, they will interbreed so you would definitely want to keep them seperated to keep lines pure.

As for males and females living together,my kapuas do. As long as they're well fed it should be fine if they breed all the time. But different wild females have different ovulation spans. My kapuas female ovulates every 12 days, which gives the male time to hold and spit before she starts pestering him again,so no need to seperate. Julie's falx on the other hand, ovulate every 3 days so she will bug the male and never give him a chance to hold a spawn if they're not seperated.

good to know wuv!! i guess once i've decided on one, i will see what the period is and figure out from there whether to separate or not..

thanks much!

 Kelly said it!! My falx female is horny all the time. She used to live with both of her males, but she's nuts, so now there is a divider. :p My foerschi can't live together - I really think it does depend on the fish, and the species too. It's not because of her period either, it's because he is just plain mean to her. At first they were fine and then he just terrorized her - never hurt her, but she was always behind the filter. Now they let me know when they want to spawn and I just lift that divider up, or she finds a way around it herself (sure you've heard those stories!)
