Are natural wild-type bettas (without the changes in color & fin length through selective breeding) ever available in the pet trade? Or other natural species in the betta genus? Thanks

Seems the wild ones look like this

I think mine must be a wild male, even though I bought it from Walmart in a female betta cup.

Nah Wendy, looks like a traditional style plakat to me :). Too chunky and brightly coloured to be wild.

A lot of members here breed wild types. I've currently got B. albimarginata that breed like bunnies, and am getting rajas, fuscas and brownorum in the near future :D

I've gotten plenty of wilds from pet shops, Imbellis, Fusca, Raja, Unimaculata all from pet shops :)

There are a ton TON of different wilds, do some research on them, they're quite fun, I enjoy them very much a good resource is here:

That's because you are blessed to live by such lfs to supply them!!!

That is very true  It's the general area I live in that I am blessed with, the Milwaukee Aquarium Society has a lot of people who breed wilds and then sell the babies to LFSs in the area for very cheap :) I'm working on getting connections :hey:

When you find out more about those connections, let me know please if you don't mind. I don't live too far and might like to take a road cruise behind the Cheddar Curtain.
