Personally i disagree with people taking fish from the wild- there are thousands of types of fish already available in lfs's so taking fish from the wild yourself is unesarsary

Oh yes there are some amazing fish like the balloon molly, dyed parrot fish, veiltail danios, albino kribs etc etc

Are these the fish you are refering too? If so then after 20+ years in the hobby I would consider giving it up!

One thing you have got to remember is that in some places the sale of wild caught fish is their only form of income. If the river is not giving people some form of income then why should they bother to conserve it. This is one way the conservation of the fishes habitat is helped. So it is not all bad.

What do you suppose will happen to the zebra plecs in the wild when there habitat is flooded for the dam near the Xingu River? I suppose some of the people who have collected some of the wild fish will keep the breed going to save them from extinction. Like the redtailed black shark, which is extinct in the wild.

Have you ever been collecting fish from the wild? I can assure you that it is nothing like catching fish in your tank you know.

It is absolutely necesary to continue to take fish from the wild to reduce inbreeding and it's negative results, wild caughts tend to in africans have less color, be more delicate, and produce less fry then a tank bred fish but a first generation will have amazeing color and health compared to continuelsy tank bred fish

This is yet another good reason to support the need for wild caught fish.

At the end of the day we have just got to be carefull on the quantities we remove of one species, to prevent over fishing and possibly upseting the balance of the eco-system in the watercourse.

Basically we have not got to do like we have done to the oceans!
