When cleaning the substrate i notice huge quantities of small black flakes. i cleaned the bogwood in a bucket of water which turned black. Filtered the water and found the same small black flakes.

Do any of the following fish (which are in my tank) eat bogwood or at least chip away at the wood?

Platies
Clown Loach
Zebra Loach
Siamese Algae Eater
Ottos
Amano Shrimps
Dwarf Gourami
Dwarf Rainbow
Corys

I've kept most of those fish with the zebra being the only one I haven't and I can't say I've had them eat at the bogwood. Some plecs like nibbling on it but I can't see most eating it..

What kind of wood is it?

The algea eater more than likely, although the loaches and shrimp are probably involved a bit too

Ottos and SAE's possibly but neither is a big wood eater as far as I know and none of the others have the right mouth for that kind of thing.
