Who's Up For A Livebearer Chat Night?

Yes I can't get TFF chat to work and would love to come, and also for those who couldn't make it maybe make another date during the week for week people.

If you move it to another chat room I'll make it.

Im on the east coast so later at night around the time you mentioned is good and any day of the week no weekends as i have far to much going.

Unfortunately, I won't be able to make it then--although the date, not the time, is the problem. Jan 6 I'll be at my local fish club's monthly meeting. Any other saturday that's not the first one of the month I could do, but first Saturdays are always out for me.

This is a planning nightmare. I'll have to talk to Neale and DG, and see what they can do. January 6th can be the big one, and we can have another one for those who can't come then, possibly the next month on a different Saturday.

I don't really want to hold it in an AIM chatroom, as I have no idea how that works, and then I couldn't have ops, to keep control. Not that any of you aren't well-behaved ( :p ) but just in case someone else comes in to cause trouble.

I'm thinking of holding it in a separate chatroom. I think everyone would have to set-up mIRC or some similar client, but I'm not sure, as I am a mess with computers. There are instructions to set up mIRC in the Board Announcements and Suggestions forum, pinned under "Trouble with Chat?" or something like that.

Edit: Just saw someone couldn't come weekends. I can't do weekdays, really, and then it's harder to ask the UKers to stay up later, since they have work, or school the next day. We're going to post the whole conversation as a forum topic...so you could always read it? I'm sorry. :X

Hello All --

At some point, Annastasia should be free to make an executive decision about the date. Not everyone can make every single day. That's a fact of life. If this works well, we can always have another similar event later on in the year.

As for time, please be reasonable to the Brits and don't expect them to stay up into the small hours of the morning. I did one of these things about a month ago at 5-7 PM EST, which worked out as 11 PM to 1 AM GMT.

She's also the moderator and needs to be able to control the event. I don't like the idea of using AIM or anything outside of the TFF chatroom. Ultimate control has to remain with the moderator... that's the only way this kind of thing can be planned and run.

As for the chatroom software. It works for me using both Safari and Firefox on my Mac -- and needless to say if something non-standard like a Mac works with it, any Windows PC should run the software fine. It does take ten or twenty seconds for the Java software to kick in, so perhaps supposed failures are just not allowing it enough time? As ever, try to read the pinned topic before giving up in disgust.

Cheers,

Neale

Thanks Neale. :)

Since we've had no more replies, let's just go for January 6th, at the planned time. I've decided not to have it in the TFF Chatroom, as a whole bunch of problems have been brought up. We can have a separate room that I've set up (With help from John), however, I think everyone needs to download mIRC or some chat client. In the pinned topic Neale linked to, there are instructions how to set up mIRC. You are on your own with other clients.

Once you've done that, and you are to the point where you can enter a channel name, type /join #LivebearerChat , and you should be there. I'm telling everyone ahead of time, so you all can mess around with it, and not freak out the night of the chat. :p

I finally figure out how to get on this one and you move it. I am not good with computers. I don't know how to do all of that stuff. I will try. I was really looking foreward to this.
I am to old for all this. You know... old dogs... ;)

 Sorry. Anyone can feel free to PM me for help, and I can guide you through step by step, or answer any questions. As long as it's mIRC you are using. I don't know a thing about any others, but I've heard Trillian is good.

There's no need to download a seperate client, it works just as well from the TFF standard one. And there's no worry of anything nasty being downloaded... Might be nice to add a topic and welcome message too. Have you sorted out the auto-op list yet? Probably best to have a couple of ops, only trouble is you need a registered nickname.

Yeah, I don't know if I'm going to do auto-ops. I might op someone, if I feel the need, depending on who I know. A channel message would be nice if I can figure out how, and have the time, but I'm not going to fret over it.

Oh, okay, good to know. Though some people cannot access chat the normal way, so it could always help them.

Just remember the 'normal' TFF chat (from the link on the main page) isn't working due to the upgrade, as Annastasia said, either download a chat client (although these can be a complete pain to figure out) or use temporary (www.fishforums.net/chat).

Thanks for the link Feeshy. :) Also, if you go in via the new TFF link, you will have to change your username to your forum name, as it signs you in as a Guest. Type /nick yournamehere, but substitute your membername for your name here.

If anyone needs help setting up a chat client, feel free to PM me, and I'll do the best I can.

Yup, there will be a transcript of the night. :good: Provided I can mess around with it beforehand, and get a log.
