You shouldn't disobey/disrespect your parents.
Thats not disobaying. He's not running away from home or hurting anybody. He just wants some pet fish!!

Just get them.

My dad didnt want me to have fish. Now he watches them more than i do! When people come round, he tells them the full history of these fish and how they come from lake malawi etc. Hows had babies and whos going to have them. Which fish lives where and who he fights with. People think that this tank is his :grr:

Makes me mad but me and my mum laugh about it

Get some big books on fish keeping from a library or something and read them ALOT and keep saying oh cool look dad a nitrite cycle or something like that and then they might think your really interested. After you have done this go to your room(once your mum has started to question your dad)then the next morning ask them again. This worked with a hamster for me.
Luckily for me my Grandad has kept fish since he was about 16 and now hes 76 so my dad was brought up around every type of fish,Coldwater,Tropical,Marine. So when i saked to get coldwater he agreed. Then about a year later after my gold fish died(my sister won another one at a fair and it had a horrible disease that wiped all 6 of my fish out)i asked to get a tropical tank,my mum agreed but my dad was ummin and arring saying i wouldnt look after them, but once i took him to the lfs he agreed and even rushed me over my grandads to get a spare heater!!
If what i say doesnt work just show a thourer(SPELLING!!)interest in fish and just ask every so often.Hope i can help

I feel for you! My parents are a bit like that, but always say that as long as I do the research and present it to them in a responsible way, thay are ok with it.
If your old man is a fan of education and studying, why not throw some quotes at him!:

Doing it isn't another way to learn, it is the only way to learn. - Albert Einstein

Give them something to do, not something to learn; and the doing is of such a nature as to demand thinking; learning naturally results. - John Dewey

What we learn to do, we learn by doing - Thomas Jefferson

You never know, might make him think!
