I just popped to the library with my 4 year old and he asked if we could go to the fish shop. So I thought we would pop into the one round the corner, see if it had improved. (not used it in months) We were horrified. Dead and dying fish in most of the tanks, turtles in poor housing (no basking area), my little boy pointed out the tiger barbs had spots (he is driving me mad for some tiger barbs). We went out the back to their new pond section and it was like something out of a horror movie, large goldfish crammed together with large open sores over their bodies. A tank with commets & shubumkins most again with open sores that were turning green, and the water itself was green comming out of the filter outlet.

I asked to speak to the manager, I started to voice my concerns (nicely as I am quite shy) and he basically told me to leave the shop.

Hiya Minx, I have just been on to the RSPCA they sounded completely uninterested.

That sounds quite shocking & upsetting. If theRSPCA arent interested, they should be ashamed :(

Its a little old fashioned, but could you consider contacting your local paper? Ours has at times run stories of shocking shop conditions & bad treatment of customers. The manager had no cause to ask you to leave.

Maybe trading standards, not sure how involved they would be.

Just spoken to a very nice man at OATA who has told me to get in touch with the council as they have issued the licence, they should do something about it.

My little boy is still upset, he wants to use all his pennies to buy the poorly fish so mummy can make them better :-(

Bless his heart x

Poor kid, my little chap would be the same way.

Call the council and make sure they do something, stress how serious a condition the fish were in.

Just got off the phone from a very nice lady at Solihill animal welfare, she is sending someone this afternoon (if possible) or first thing in the morning. I said about the water quality and injured fish and turtles, she was not too happy, she is going to try to get someone over there this afternoon, if not first thing in the morning, she has taken my number to let me know how they get on.

truely aweful...but good for you for doing something about it!!!!!!!
keep us updated

Glad to hear they are taking it seriously, let us know what happens :)

I hope they do, do something. I am disgusted.I will update this thread if I hear anything :good:

well done for getting someone to look into it, I hope your little boy is feeling a bit better now, my two older children get really upset when they see hurt fish too.
