Who Do I Report A Bad Pet Shop To?

Yeah the council isue the lisence, if they don't do anything go to DEFRA (the department for environmetal food and raural affairs) govenrment department as they issue the local council with the rights to issue the lisence. That should do it, although there are not many DEFRA inspectors, thats what i shall be wanting to do in 1 year after my next degree lol

Keep us posted, i have never heard of anything coming out of these, but this one sounds promising

your local council should be able to help with things like that they can get the relative enforcements done like getting evironmental health involved and other government animal welfare organizations.

the rspca are over swamped and under funded and they cant actually do much with out the police but alert the relavant authorities ive tried a few times and got no where with them its as if its too much hassle for them unless its furry pets and then thier is a bit of interest, am i being too harsh on them ?

I would report the shop to the rspca as the fish are obviously suffering. They want closing down.
Plus they are not allowed to sell ill fish to the public.

Glad the animal welfare taken ill treatment of livestock more seriously.
Disgusted at the rspca. Only seem to be interested when camera's are around.

Under funded! lol, sorry, im not a massive fan of the RSPCA, only because they have no power what so ever lol, even under the Animal Act 2007 they are useless, why can't DEFRA sort themselves out and organise a real department with more inspectors rather than leaving it to local councils who don't have the knowlege to dish out things like zoo licences or DWA's or pet shop lisences

i 100% agree with you hollanda88

and wasn't defending the rspca just stateing

lol, good good. I just didn't agree with the under funded part, they have built a new head quarters worth millions of pounds for no real reason

They would be a good organisation if, as people have already said, they wern't speciesist and only focused on the flagship species like the poor little horses that was tied up in the filed for a day without water. Don't bother about the millions of fish that live in cups of tea

and the amount of turtles getting dumped.

my gf rescued a large adult (13" shell) female yellow belly slider last month because the rspca wouldn't take her in so we getting her a nice 4 x 3 x 3 (in a 4 x 2 x 2 at the mo) to live in now she occasionally goes in my tank as a treat and to prune my plants lol

Well done, and its people like you, and many others on here, that are needed in this world. Instead of chavs who buy an animal as a present with no knowlege or equiptment and then get 'bored' of it after a week

If only people needed lisences which were strict to own any living animal, if only

true

i also rescued a 2ft siver arowana from a seperated couple who didnt want it no more and they had it in a 4 x 18 x 18, im upgrading when i move next month to a 8 x 3 x 3 so it will be fine in my 5ft.6 x 2 x 2ft.6 till then

Hiya Minx, I have just been on to the RSPCA they sounded completely uninterested.

this dosent surprise me in the slightest. Many people have said they've come across foxes with evidence of surgery, they have no clue what-so-ever about anything.

sounds like a place that needs to be shut down, i think it would be good too if no action is taken, to start a letter writing campaign against the store. hopefully good things come.

After reporting the shop to the council and a few e-mails and letters fired off, I am pleased to report that the shop has lost its licence to sell live stock. All the fish, turtles and other reptiles had been removed, unfortunately I do not know where they have gone, but they were removed by the council. All the hell hole tanks have been closed down and the back of the shop is now boarded over and he is not allowed to keep livestock to sell. It took time but at least no more fish will suffer in this shop.

Yyyyyiiiiiiiiippppppppppeeeeeeeeeeee
