Whitish Gunk On Top Of Water?!

hi all, i have done 2 water changes today, because of the ammonia and nitrite; they are back to 0 now though, but the thing that puzzles me is that the top of the water is all covered in a whitish gunk that floats? i'll take a pic if anyone needs more id of it

it was a easy life fluid filter medium

Yep that's it. You basically added bacteria and it collected on top the water instead of inside your filter.

so what should i do to get it off the top of the water, will i add some of the easy life fluid filter medium to the filter sponges

try using a very fine fish net. If that doens't work you can use some paper towel and just dab it on top of the white stuff.

i dont understand why you are messing about with the tank , you dont need "instant bacteria" you need to keep testing and doing more regular water changes ( once a week as long as your ammonia and nitrite stay at 0) rubbish like that stuff is only any good when its refrigarated from time of manufacturing till you buy it, which often dosent happen as its too costly for some stores to do, so what your buying is a big bottle of "nothing" probably wont do any harm but not doing any good either,and stinging your pocket!
test your water twice a day for a week once in the morning and then again in the evening, carry out water changes accordingly and things will soon get back on track for you ( any slight rise in ammona and nitrite then water change) the dog wont mind waiting a while

i suggest you use lay some kitchen paper on the surface of the tank, see if that will absorb it, if not then you should do a water change and Dont add anything else, you dont need too! you just need to take the advice on offer

ok thanks for advice ill do water changes daily and test in the morning and evening for signs of increase in ammonia and nitrite
