White Surface Build Up

Hello,

I have a tank with a back filtration system.

Behind the wall where the filters operate, there is a build up of this white stuff on the surface.

Any clues as to what it is? It kind of looks like the white stuff you sometimes get between cod meat and the batter from the chippies.

Protein or dust. Just scoop it out with a fine fishing net.
