ive got 4 white cloud mountain minnows left in my 10 gallon right now after all the other fish died a few weeks ago

now that the heater has been unplugged i was wondering if i can put a fancy goldfish in there with them as they also like coldwater

ive never had a goldfish and have always wanted one to name Winston so now is my chance to get one tomarrow

I just dont want my white clouds to become goldfish dinner.

The clouds lived with my bitchy Betta for about a month one time and he would constenly chase them around trying eat them but they are quick little buggers so maybe they can outswim a fancy goldfish as there are not good swimmers from what ive seen.

Has anyone ever had any luck keeping these together peacefully or what do you think??

It can work but not in a 10G, if you want to add goldfish you'll need something along the lines of a 30G

Thats funny because everything ive ever read about fancy goldfish states that a 10 gallon will be fine

I do have a 65 gallon with just a cpl fish in it right now but i dont want to waste it on a few goldfish so 10 G will have to be fine.

Thanks though

Believe me 10 gallons is NOT remotely fine. Not for a permanent home. 30 gal may just work for a single black moor or pearlscale perhaps, but anything like a common or shubunkin or comet , or one of the larger fancies like Ryukins ect will really be better in 55 gals.

Stick with just white clouds in your ten gallon. Or take a look at the stickied topic for alternative fish for 10 gallon tanks.

LOL thats very strang

i don't promote people keeping fish in bowls at all but ive known many people who have kept them for YEARS(2-5) in a little tiny ONE gallon bowl so I would imagine 10 Gallons over filtered would be fine.

BTW I wasn't asking if a goldfish can be kept in a 10 Gallon i was asking if they get along with white cloud mountain minnows.

Thanks for all your help though, LOL.

the goldfish will get to a certain stop growing but its organs carry on growing and eventually they get all squashed and it dies, how o=would you like it?

if you carry on and keep them in the 10g the WC minnows could end up being stressed by the goldfish as they wont have enough room to escape from them
the goldfish will definately be stunted in growth , this means their internal organs keep growing but their bodies dont , if you want to do this to fish then you shouldn't really be keeping them and i hope you dont cos you would just be being cruel , abusing and neglecting any animal through ignorance is bad enough but when you have been given the facts then that is just disgusting IMO
2-5 years is nothing for a goldfish (20-30 i think but someone else will confirm) and stunting most probably caused their premature death

You think 5 years is a long time?   Goldfish have a lifespan of over 30 years when kept as they are supposed to be kept . The oldest lived to be around 42 years old. You're taking on a serious commitment when you get a goldfish.

The fact you said you had white clouds and a 10 gallon, plus the fact you said you had always wanted to name a goldfish winston and had a chance to get one tomorrow ,suggested that you intended to get one if they got on with white clouds. Which is why we have all told you it should not be done.

thanks honey i couldn't remember how long they did live for :)

I understand where you're coming from but really, goldfish do not belong in ten gallons, even though they may survive on for some years (my uncle had one in 5 gallons for 15 years) really goldfish need 30, or, in a pinch, 29.9999 gallons, they die of organ failure in less.

If the poor goldfish does get bigish it will eat the wcmms mine did, 50gallons is the minimum for fancy goldfish to live happily normal ones i think need more as mine has about outgrown my 50gal and will soon be moving hopefully

Yes people keep goldfish in small tanks and yes idiots will reckomend it saying theres lived for ages but they mean 4 years thinking this is old. Goldfish are big they need big tanks.

My 6 year old one is 20cm long now listen please
