anyway when i got back on the sunday i looked in, to see the java moss on the rock had all this white hairy algae stuff growing all over it.

what is it? algae? thats white? lol

is it a result of the exntended lighting?

i have no fish in the tank jus a few plants.

As I had no idea, I Googled.

And I suspect that it'll gradually go away now that your light isn't on 24/7

'What is this white hair-like stuff growing in my aquarium?? ...'

'Just that either green or black hair algae. the best way to get rid of it are snails and to not feed it so much light and fish food, you are leaving the light on to long 10 hours is plenty and over feeding your fish. only what they can eat in 5 minutes.

' have a 55 gallon tank. Water quality is good, no cloudiness and have not had any fish die. There is this white mossy looking stuff thats on the bottom of my tank and it spreads. I had this happen recently so I completely cleaned entire tank. Washed gravel along with everything else. IT'S BACK AND GROWING! Do you have any ideal what this is and how to get rid of it. Thank You. '

'... The white stuff could either be white hair algae or it could be fungus that is growing due to uneaten food.
Seeing as you have washed the substrate and its still growing i would suspect hair algae.
To get rid of this, you need to reduce the lighting in the tank as hair algae thrives in high lighting. ...'
