While Waiting For The Cycle....

Cool :D

So i might be ok to add some Pentazona's.

Maybe...

1x bristlenose plec
6x small cories like pandas or 4x Leopard cories (ill be researching this first)
6x danio's or 6x Pentazona's
6x tetra's, probably the Cordinal's
2x golden rams

Thanks for letting me know about the 1" per gallon rule Underwurlde!! :D although i think ill go by UK then i know i wont over stock.

sounds good to me! :good:

hehe almost exactly what you had put anyway. Still not 100% sure what to go for but i have the time to think about it!! :D
Going to go to a place called Porton Aquatic and Pet Centre tomorrow to get some ideas, i might even test them!!

"excuse me sir"
"yes, how can i help?"
"i would like to know about a fishless cycle?"

And see where that gets me!! :D

Through looking at other post i found this www.thinkfish.co.uk has anyone used the community creator?? Ive just tried it and added...

6 Pentazona
6 Cardinal Tetra
6 Leopard Cory
1 Bristtlenose Plec

Enough said!! :D Ill take what it says with a pinch of salt.

Well..... went to the lfs in porton and started asking questions!! and the response was pretty much what i expected.

I started off by saying "Ive bough a new aquarium and need to cycle it"

And what i got back was a little worrying..... now i don't really now that much and for anyone who doesn't this could be really bad. Basically the guy say that all i would need to do is fill the tank, put everything in to and then leave it for about 2 weeks. In these 2 week i can just add a little food and that's it. To me this didn't sound like enough time and there would still be harmful bacteria in there.....

Anyway after all that i asked about doing a fishless cycle and then  the guy didn't really know what i was talking about (not that i know it all myself). It then ended up being be telling him what i had read and what it was all about..... which i found amusing.

All in all an eventful day!!

Just in case you meant that...

What is LACKING from a new tank is good bacteria, be it in the substrate, on the glass or in the filters.
There are no issues with bad bacteria per se because a new tank will be more or less sterile.
To get the good bacteria going, add Mulm to the substrate & filters (if you can - the best kick start and will greatly reduce the cycle time) and then get them growing by adding pure ammonia on a daily basis.

Regualar testing from then on will tell you if your tank has cycled and you can add fish, a process that will take longer than 2 weeks.

If you knew all that then apologies....
