Hey, I have just filled my tank up and put sand in and plugged in filter and heater and duh havent got the suction cups and they are £7 from ebay (i know!). I also need a light tube to replace one I broke(£11) and some plants (cuttings and stuff £11). After buying reptile stuff and a fur scarf I only have money for 2 of these things until next week.

Do i go for the,

A) Lights and plants

B) Suction cup things for heater and filter and light tube

C) Suction cups and plants

Only problem with C is the plants would have no light lol

It would be helpful if anyone could post as soon as poss as i can order whatever is best tonight and them be posted tomorrow.

i would get the tank running properly before adding the finishing touches.

so would be suction cups and light tube.

Its cool ima get the light, plants and heater holder, and then the fiter holder next week. Its cool, when the lid is on it stays put.

how will you be cycle the tank? Are you doing a heavly planted tank few fish. If so I would get plants and light then look in to doing a silent cycle.

If you need tubes so the filter runs get that you want your filter up and running. The little things foe the heater are not needed. I don't even bother with them.

Well its not tubes or anything just the sucker to keep it stuck to the side of the tank. The filter is running now, and the heater is on and the water is around 78 F (I think its F??)

I have ordered little suckers that keep the heater sucked to the wall, as the ones i have are rubbish. Have ordered the Light

Also Tank wise, I just want quite a fewlive plants around and then a few fish, I hear its best not to have the filter disturb the surface if you keep plants is that right?

Also im not sure of the best way to cycle this kind of tank ATM looking up the best way to do it now.

Thats cool, there is a little thing on the outlet which means there will be some disturbance but not full, should I do it like that? Kind of best of both worlds?

You should have the filter disturbing the surface for the benefit of your fish

Andy

i think that's complete rubbish for most fish tbh. When i had a planted tank and run a co2 system i had nothing aggravating the surface. I was also injecting co2.

Your not meant to disturb the surface if you run co2 as the co2 will be pointless. If you don't run co2 then it don really matter imo

The surface disturbance creates oxygenation. In a heavily planted tank, it's not that important as the plants create plenty. My 75 gallon has 2 fluvals and the outlet is about 3" below the surface so the surface disturbance is almost nonexistent.

As for the suction cups, I'm really surprised the heater didn't come with them. It will be very difficult to find some the right size to fit around the heater.
