I am looking into getting a new small tank for my birthday, we have a 155l at the moment but wanting something small around 30l to put in my livingroom. I have just started using real plants and would like to heavy plant the new tank as since it will only be small it should not costs an awful lot to plant up. Was just wondering if anyone had any suggestions about what small tank would be good to purchase that has decent enough lighting to grow plants in. Whating a low tech set up, no c02 etc. Also it would have to be a covered tank as I have a little toddler who I am sure would love to stick his little hands in the fishy tank.

aqua one ar620 90 ltr but a nice shape tank with built
in wet and dry trickle filter :good:

Thanks i was kinda thinking the aqua one would be the way to go. Would the lighting be sufficient for plant growth? If i get some low light plants. The 90l mentioned is a nice tank but its triple the size i am looking for. I just sold a jewel 80litre as it was too big for my livingroom but i am now missing having a fishy tank there so just thought something small with a couple of fish would do.

i didnt have any issues getting any to grow in mine..and im not the kind to pay attention either  so with a bit of effort i dont foresee any problems

just dug this out
no fish at this point just the plant.. i later added java moss that grew like mad

I love the arcadia arc. It's one of the most stylish small tanks on the market I think.

the 36l one :good:

Thats also a lovely tank but with my toddler around I would end up finding toys floating in it. I really need one that has a hood for my livingroom. We have a opentop in the hall but it is a really tall tank so my toddler can't reach that one.

I believe the Arcadia tank has a glass lid :good:

I like the Arcadia tank and the Aqua Start 320.

What stock are you planning? Got to be careful with small tanks - even "small" fish like neon tetras and such appreciate their space, especially when adults. I'd go for something like a betta, or some intresting dwarf gourami species like liqourice gouramis or sparkling gouramis, or a community of "micro" fish.

I was thinking of going for 5 female bettas since they are quite slow fish. I seem to be better at keeping the females rather than the males. I will look into that tank then if it has a glass lid. Thanks again everyone.

for 5 females you'll need a 45l tank, otherwise the weaker ones wouldn't have places to hide.

I don't think 30L will be enough for 5 females, and I wouldn't keep them in a smaller group than that. They need plenty of hiding places and ways of getting away from each other if they need to.

How about a single female with some pygmy cory tankmates?

If you want a female betta soroity, what about the aquaqube?

This was my 40l one when I was selling it. I did have plans for a sorority in there. You tend to see them in town centre pet shops that have a few fish. They're about £50, or they do come up on ebay a fair bit.

The elite range is pretty good and reasonably priced I'm hoping to turn mine into a planted tank
