Right, I have looked everywhere to try and work out 1 which fish do I have, they were labelled as dwarf rams and 2 are they male or female.

Here are some pics, if you need others I could take more, if they arent hiding :)

The pics are about a 2 weeks old, the stressed out one, the colouring has calmed down alot, and some what brighter, took pics day after I got them.

I can take some more if that would make it easier :)

They're Mikrogeophagus ramirezi (German or blue ram if you prefer).

The one in the top pic is almost certainly a male; can't tell with the other one from those pics, but I think that might be male too.

Ok thanks :). If they are both male, will a 180 litre 4 foot tank be big enouph? I heard they have territorial issues, I think the second one is quite alot younger than the other, certainly a little smaller. However they do seem to go everywhere with each other lol

Agree with Fluttermoth, both M.ramirezi 180L is fine, it is more likely to be females that will fight as they tend to create a territories, in a tank of this size two males should be no problem at all.

Ok this is another pic of the both of them, I think the first 2 pics are male and the second 2 are female, but please correct me if I am wrong.

Sorry you are spot on, they are both males, both have a slightly larger second dorsal spike. Shame as would have liked them to breed, I've heard they become alot more colourful once they have bred.

Oh well, would I be able to add a female in there?

Thanks for your help :)

If you add a lone female then i dare say all hell will break out between your two males. They're friendly at the moment due to them having nothing to fall out about... Add a member of the opposite sex and they all of a sudden have something to compete for. One will be forced to retreat and will probably not be very happy. Could you return one and try and get a female?

They'revery nice fish btw, stunning infact!

Why thankyou, I think I may just stick to the 2 males then, would be nice for them to spawn, but also I don't think my water is soft enough for it, and I don't really want the agression either. Also I think my angel will eat most of the fry.

Thanks for the compliment on how they look :)
