When working out your tanks volume, is it measured in UK or US gallons?

I wasn't sure if you worked out the gallons according to which country you live in or if all fishkeepers use the same (eithr UK or US)

Thanks

Yes I do it by litres as well thats why I wasn't too sure about which gallon measurement most fishkeepers use as it makes quite a significant difference as the tanks get bigger and bigger.

As JenCliBee said, it is usually in US gallons because many common tanks sold in North America have names that sort of refer to US gallons. Unfortunately a 29 gallon only holds about 26 gallons of water so even the small US gallons are misleading. If you take a standard NA tank with a gallon rating and use the external dimensions all the way to the top of the plastic top frame, it calculates quite close to the number printed on the tag. Unfortunately that means people who don't bother to measure the actual volume of water that they use to fill the tank have no idea how much water they have. Small overdoses of medication is just one of the problems this leads to. Actual volume measurement using real water levels is always a better idea than the numbers on the tank's tags in the shop.

If ever i post something to do with my tank i ALWAYS state litres, UK gallons and US gallons, that way you've covered all bases to do with the amount your tank can hold as a max.

Mark.

I find that most discussions here on the forum and in commercial settings are either in liters or US gallons. There are a few references every now and then to UK gallons here but its rare.
