Which Fish To Breed?

Hi all,

I have tried my hand at breeding angelfish and have just sold off both my breeding pairs and would really like to try some new fish. does anyone have any ideas? I looked at discuss but they might be a bit too expensive.... could some people recommend their favourites? some that are not too difficult to breed and can pretty much be left to it..

Kribs are an easy one
Bristlenose pleco's
Some Apistogramma are fairly easy i've heard

I have tried my hand at breeding zebra danios and have had many many platies and guppies before. so just looking for something a little more challenging, but also where maybe i can sell some of the fry. rams sound interesting? or are there any other cichlids? I loved angelfish and do have borellis but prefer a fish to breed which I can keep in more of a clean/empty tank...

Yupp, I hear Kribs are a good Cichlid to breed. Or you could try your hand at breeding some mbuna like Yellow Lab's although you may need a whole new setup to suit them, pending on your current setups.

if you want cichlids try convicts as far as I hear they cant stop breeding

I'd suggest going to your LFS and asking what species they would be prepard to take off your hands. For example although kribs have been suggested, you might have a problem shifting the fry, I know my LFS wont take them, same for convicts.

I would like a fish that cares for its young so I can keep them in the same tank. How large a tank would I need for discus? and do these need to be fed meaty foods? or would flakes work?

from what I hear, discus are a very labor intensive fish just to KEEP, never mind breed - - you might want to try an easier species

What would you recommend? I have 4 x Blue Steel Apistogramma's which i might give a go or something similar to angels is what im looking for? Dwarf Gouramis?

how about corys. every lfs i went to with my green and gold stripes snapped them up straight away

you could consider breeding barbs like tiger barbs. my friend does it. i dont.
