Where To Put Supa Synthetic Filter Wool?

Floss tends to get filled up with gunk pretty quick, and as its designed to filter the smallest particles out of the water, its best to make it the last peice of media the water travels through. Without knowing much about filter you have of course, i dont know where in your filter that is!

Hope this helps!

Ben

EDIT - Googled your filter, it looks like it could be the very last tray, but would wait for someone who knows exactly to advise!

I agreee with Mowbz.....last possible position in the water flow.

I tried floss in my external once......fell apart after 2-3 weeks. Didn't really see the point after that.

Cool, well the stuff I bought is a mit like cotton wool! ;p

so the last place the water goes through will have to think abouth that... may sandwich it between 2 thin pieces of foam...

The filter comes with these pads

with the removable roud part, should I put the wool in the removable part?

OK have come back home and sandwhiched a piece of the wool between the spong layes in the middle tray....

Not sure if this si right, but water flow is OK so far....

How long do you reckon it would take to have an effect?

Cheers!

It needs to be the very last layer. Just lay it on top of the sponge rather than in the middle. It will start to work straight away.

OK cheers, just to be clear then, if these are my layers:

Filter head
Sponge,
Sponge,
Sponge,
Ceramic Media
Filter base

Then it needs to go:

Filter head
Filter wool,
Sponge,
Sponge,
Sponge,
Ceramic Media
Filter base

Its been in for ten min so far with no difference...

I shall shut it off and move it to the top.

Cheers.

Yeah, as long as it is the last thing that the water flows through you will be fine. :) It will catch the majority of stuffthat is in your water :good:

Well its been in there over an hour or so, with no effect...

I'll be patient, our tap water is truly horrible here!

Do you think by any chance that my current lighting is 'highlighting' the particulates?

Possibly so, but usually filter wool/floss is enough to remove the worst. I have really hammered my 180 today, scubbed it, vacced it, re-arranged it slightly and done about a 50% water change and quickly rinsed my thin piece of floss in my TT 1200 and the water is crystal and has been since dinnertime.

Were should I put the same wool in my AS620T built in filter, I've read that on this particulacy filter that it's best to go it as the first layer above the black sponge but can anybody shed any light whilst were on the subject ??

I believe it is at the top of the second chamber? Thats where i had it on mine and worked well.
