Where To Buy Akadama

I been reading james planted tank and like the look of hiis substrate called Akadama, its mainly used for bonsai, but more and more people are using it for the aquarium. I need 4 x 14 litre bags and wondered if anyone knew where to get it local to croydon/mitcham area as the postage costs nearly as much as a bag. James said he paid around £6.50 a bag, I know that was a few years back but the cheapest I found online is £14 a bag plus £10 postage.

I just been given the delivery date of my tank from nd so need to get everything ready now. so any ideas?

I remember there was a guy on the M20 some where in Kent. Sorry cant remember details though.

Have you considered cat litter? I have the tesco kitty litter in mine and it looks like akadama and a lot cheaper I did my 6 foot tank for about £25 or so.

I have nearly exhausted all the local garden centers within 10 miles of me without any luck, so I may have to go down the kitty litter route as that looks quite nice. is it the low dust one from tesco here

+1 on the cat litter, it is essentially the same as Akadama.

That's the one yes. Although I would not say it is low dust as takes quite a bit of rinsing, well worth it in the end.

thanks guys, think I have made my mind up and gonna go for the kiity litter, as I got another 2.5 weeks before the tanksa rrive that will give me plenty enough time to rinse the stuff. How deep do you all have the litter asw I can then roughly work out how many bags to get.

Did my tank yesterday with the Tescos low dust stuff. I had fullers earth cat litter capped with sand before, was never 100% sure i liked it.

I think this stuff looks nice though!
