I see everyone with such nice pieces of wood in their tanks. Where do you get that? Can you just use a branch off a tree? Or do you buy them in stores? Where do you find them? I obviously know so little about it. But I'd like one for my tank, it's very attractive and I like the look of tannins too.

well i know totton do planted wood but most good pet shops do small bits of driftwood :hyper:

Hm, I never saw any in my LFS (they are pretty large and comprehensive) but I'll have to inquire.

Round about your neck of the woods,I believe you have trees called 'Manzanita' or similar, this is widely used in aquariums, just make sure you collect a dead, dried piece.

Well just checked wikipedia for that... I'm in Ontario so it seems like I'm on the wrong end... I've never seen trees like that. :p

Well,as you're online, you can always check eBay.You can buy off specialist aquarist websites, but usually at a high price.Look on eBay for redmoor/red moor root, manzanita, bogwood or driftwood.
I know here in the UK,there's one guy that does redmoor MUCH cheaper on eBay than you can buy ANYWHERE.

I bought 2 pieces from foster & smith website. Mopani driftwood. Got a medium and large piece. Like the medium piece more heh.
Both a fairly good price and they look great.
Not sure if canada has Petsmarts, but I know the one by us also sells Mopani wood in the section w/ the reptile accessories stuff.

Yup we've got petsmarts. I was planning on heading to one today but I ended up being a little late and am not sure whether I'm going to head out now since it's 5pm...

If I do I'll be sure to check...
