Hi there,

I've got 3 tropical tanks so far (see below), but never had a marine tank.

I'm planning to get a 2ft tank for life corals and possibly a couple of marine fish a little later on.

Please advise the essentials I need to start with...

Looking forward to your replies. Thanks a bunch!

It will be much easier to keep things alive in a bigger tank :)

You will need a tank (55 or bigger preffereably)
live rock
Live sand
Powerful lights
Lots of powerheads
a Hob filter would be nice
A heater
Salt
Patience
Lots and lots of cash

And a little bit of guidence

If you are keeping corals on their own with no fish then tank size is not as important as territorial disputes are mostly a fish thing...

Saying that, you do need to research the corals you want to keep as these will still fight amongst each other and sting/use chemical warfare to keep their bit of turf to themselves. However, with some research and guidance its possible to have a tank full of corals and without any fish they are not that demanding as they are very small on the bioload.

Lighting is the biggest issue as corals are very much light dependant.
Circulation is also high on the list as they need this flow to help rid themselves of any mucus buildup etc. It also seerves as they only way of catching food.

Opcn has all the other bases covered by the looks of it.
