Hi,

I've been looking on eBay and online stores to purchase decorations, plants and wood for my new 4ft tank. eBays range of fake plants don't appear as good quality as some online stores such as www.aquaticsupplies.com.au. However these sites are quite costly when setting up from scratch + delivery.

I've read about silk plants accumulating algae, if I wont be using a light will they fake plants still grow algae? Should I just go and buy real plants (because I do have a fluro light that sits ontop) since they seem cheaper and better for the fish and tank.

Any advise welcome.

I'm no expert but what are you intending to stock in your tank? as fake plants can be good but i'm just getting to grips with plants myself but i would think the best bet would be to think of your stock and also what you want to get out of it.

In that i mean my plants are essentially additional food not really decoration but is it just a bit of colour or are you going all out and planting a tank or do you want some low maintanance?

Buy these at a local fish store if you have one. Otherwise you run the risk of getting fake plants and wood which don't meet your expectations from the pictures.

It's really for decorative purposes and hiding places. I am interested in adding wood and possibly some fresh plants on wood to bring in some life.

These are the fish I have inherited with the tank:

- 1x opaline gourami
- 1x Macaw Cichlid
- 1x black catfish of some sort (not sure of the name)
- 5x convicts ( i know these shouldnt be in there with the others, but they seem to do fine together)
- 1x angel fish

Plastic plants made by Sydeco are really good, fairly expensive as plastic plants go... but really solidly build with a decent heavy base.

One thing to consider is that whilst plastic/silk plants are expensive, if you take care of them and clean them once in a while you might make a savings compared to having to replace real plants if you are bad with them. On the other hand, if you are good with live plants you may be able to sell your excess and make money. I know some people just can't grown plants at all for some reason though, in which case artificial is probably a good investment. You can always just build up over time!

Pound shop are.doing 3 plants for .... Guess how.much ? Lol

lots of different ones too!

Depends on where you live, if your in Canada I would say BigAls stores or their websale site, www.bigalspets.ca or the American one www.bigalspets.com I bought a bunch of plants off them and it got here in two days, but I assume thats because their warehouse it came from isnt that far from me. They have a great selection of plants to look at and great prices as well. I got a bunch of 4.5" plants for $2 each or less, some of my 8-10" plants were only like $8 they're all made by Underwater Treasures
