Where Did The Snails Go?

A few months ago I accidentally introduced some kind of little pest snail to my tank. Not too long after, there seemed to be hundreds of them At pretty much the same time I introduced 4 Red Cherry Shrimp which have since reproduced to the extent that I now have about 60 young shrimp at various stages of development.

Now the curious thing is that the more shrimp that have appeared, the fewer snails I've seen to the point where I have to look pretty hard to see any!

Is this a coincidence or have the shrimp possibly out-competed the snails for food?

Chances are the shrimp would get the left overs leaving nothing for the snails to eat and therefore they are dieing

...so I've cured an infestation of snails with an infestation of shrimp?

Not that I'm complaining, mind you, because my LFS have agreed to swap my excess shrimp for fish food - I don't think they'd have wanted the snails somehow

I just hope my three Zebra Nerite snails are getting enough to eat - don't want them being out-competed
