Im looking for a new cabinet to put my aquarium on to but it has to be at least as long as the tank itself, and ast least as wide. (Obviously). But so far the majority of the ones Ive seen are too narrow, or too short! It has to have a open compartment underneath big enough for a sump tank, and preferably I want it in beech effect wood. Doesnt have to be anything special. Im looking to spend up to about £200.
Any ideas please :good:

Where abouts do you live. I know a shop called A5 Aquatics in Nuneaton do a really good range of tanks and cabinets. They don't however have a website.

Can you tell us the make and dimensions of your tank, maybe we can help find a cabinet to fit it then :)

oh yeah  that might help!!!

Im pretty sure its a Fluval 1000 tank, its 1000mm (l) x 400mm (w) x 500cm (h)

And I live in Poole, Dorset.

ha ha, even though minxfishy is "floating in space somewhere" this is a perfect example question where it helps to put your location in your profile. That lets members know at a glance whether you are in their neighborhood or on the other side of the world as it were.

The option of a custom stand is always out there although it may prove too expensive. Who knows, a want ad in the for sale section here or in your local communications may turn up someone who's good with wood and would love the extra income helping you. Otherwise, just seems a busy task of searching as many stores and websights for the right dimensions as possible.

thanks for the advice about putting my location in my profile. I hadnt even realised I could do that! Its done now though :good:

Have you thought about designing and making your own, a good frame and some nice birch ply would do the job ok. Its not to difficult to do really and it can be cheap, that way you can make it the exact size you want it :good: i am doing a marine journal on here and have some pics of my stand being built, they may help you out.

Good luck

The fluval cabinet for the roma 200, is the exact specs of 100w x 40d, so that would fit the bill.

Fluval ranges can be found in pets at home in the UK.

Umm yep Minxy naughty, she really should put her real location

aah Minxy, I wasn't really serious. Since technically we are all really floating in space its kind of fun to have someone remind us of that now and then :D ...besides, once all the banks in the western world finish going bankrupt, we're all going to be mostly sitting around floating

Problem solved. I went to a furniture shop today and found a really nice TV cabinet the exact dimensions I need!!! Im going to strengthen it structurally, and it will do the job perfectly. Thanks for the replies though.

That sounds great! Be sure to spread the weight over plenty of surface area where it contacts the floor if possible. If any of the structure is made with particle board then take measures to protect it from water drips/spills that are not immediately cleaned up. Do pay attention to leveling when setup time comes.
